Sardegna, Italy Butterfly Effect
Sunday, May 9th, 2010The 2nd Butterfly Effect event of 2010 and the 16th event overall since the beginning in 2007, was held on the shore of Chia, Italy. Chia is the southern point of the island of Sardegna. The conditions were perfect for SUP. The sky was clear and the water was even clearer. Chia is such a magical place with beauty everywhere you look. I look forward doing an annual event in this ideal location because of the lovely beaches, landscape, waves, wind, and people.
The day started bright and early as we gathered at the beach along with the Chia Classic to do a beach clean up with Surfrider Foundation. As we looked down the beach we thought the beach was clean already, but when we grabbed our gloves and trash bags we found a lot more trash on the beach than expected.
As we were hot from marching around the beach picking up trash we were all ready to get in the water. We had women ranging in age from 11 to 58 years young. 58 year old Sonia, the youngest 58 year old you will ever meet, had all the health tips, energy, and exercises to lead out in the warm up. Some of the girls have never tried stand-up paddling before and others like Annita Blanch were experts! After teaching everyone the sport, we were off for a beautiful paddle through two islands, around, and back up along the white sand beach. As we laughed, splashed, and shimmered along the water, there was satisfied feeling in all of us. We were all in the present moment enjoying the water and feeling very blessed to make new friends from around the world in a dream like atmosphere.
